The Event March 18, 2017

Westwood Collegiate's "Event" will be student co-chaired by Joanna K, Alissa L and Hunter W.
"The Event" is the main annual fundraiser for Safe Grad. It will be held in our gymnasium on Saturday March 18th. Students learn a dance in groups throughout the year to perform on stage in front of friends and family. This dance is based on a theme (this year is Hollywood!) and is choreographed by Westwood alumni.

Graduating students will be asked to donate prizes for our silent auction, and Grade 11 families will be asked to donate baking for the evening.

Stay tuned for more information regarding ticket sales.

        Grade 9/10 Visual Arts Advanced

The Grade 9/10 Visual Arts Advanced students continued their study of abstract painting by using the techniques created by American artist Jackson Pollock. Channeling a strong emotion, students chose appropriate colours and applications to illustrate how they were feeling. It was an energetic and invigorating exercise that was enjoyed by all. The paintings are beautiful and will be part of the visual arts showcase at For the Love of the Arts on Monday, April 10th, 2017 at Westwood Collegiate.

Grade 9 & 10 Visual Arts Advanced students

The Grade 9 and 10 Visual Arts Advanced students had the challenge of creating textural paintings in oil paint using only a palette knife to apply the paint to the canvas. Drawing from the still life for inspiration the subject of the painting is completed in black, white, and gray with the background completed in a colour of their choice. They had a lot of fun with this experiment and learned how complicated working without paint brushes can be!
