Michael Proudfoot Award winner

Congratulations to our very own Ms. Russell who was awarded the Michael Proudfoot award at last night's Gala concert for the Winnipeg Music Festival.  Established in 2007, this Award is presented in recognition of a conductor who exemplifies a passion for excellence in choral work in the province of Manitoba.  Anyone who has ever had the chance to sing in one of her choirs, or to be in one of her classes, immediately recognizes that she is an extremely passionate and gifted educator and conductor who is very giving of her time both in and out of the classroom. Besides directing the choral program at Westwood Collegiate, she directs the St.James-Assiniboia Divisional Jr. Choir and is on the board of the Manitoba Choral Association and was recently part of the Province Of Manitoba in Curriculum Development team for the new high-school Arts Curriculum.  Congratulations to Ms. Russell.

Congratulations to Rachel S for being named this weeks MHSAA Athlete of the Week

The Tire Recycle Urban Athlete of the Week is Rachel S of the Westwood Warriors basketball team.

This 5'9" shooting guard helped lead the varsity girls to the finals of the Piper Classic and the Harryy Ainlay tournament. She is currently averaging 3 steals, 8 rebounds and 9 points a game and was a large reason for the Warriors 3rd place conference victory against Oak Park. Coach Sarah Lundgren states," She has worked hard in the off season to focus on shot selection, confidence with her dribble, and making the right pass. She is starting to establish herself as a confident 3 point shooter. Rachel is a born leader; she doesn't know how to quit or give up. It is an amazing quality to have as a basketball player and a person. She is a dominant player on the offensive and defensive end and is really coming into her own as a player to watch. I am very excited to see what the rest of the season brings. We are very fortunate to have Rachel be part of our basketball team this year."
In Grade 12 she maintains a 94% academic average, while also participating in track & field.
